Hi everyone. Since I was contacted by the Black Swan label head himself and sent links to these awesome new remixes for Lulacruza's acclaimed fourth album Orcas from last Summer, I feel inspired of writing few words about them. The original songs I had played were very well received in my gigs, and people even came to ask me about the artist to write the name down. Media was excited as well, i.e. Huffington Post wrote this great article with lots of praise.
It comes as no surprise for that along the remixers are some of the most interesting producers from Latin America; the sublime El Búho (who just released awesome Cenotes EP on Wonderwheel), Chancha via Circuito (who scored big in my books with their Amansara Remixed album last summer - also on Wonderwheel - and my son claimed Jardines - Thornato Remix as one of his favorite tunes and was singing a hook a lot) and Nicola Cruz, whose amazing Colibria was my opening track for the last autumn's Bliss Project party (please do check out my special 2-hour mix based on the gig).
Some names are new to me, like the ethereal Sleepers Work, a bit chaotic King Koya and graceful Abarca Mi, and they all sound quite experimental and delicious to me. SaQi is featured again (after his Simple Reflejo remix from 2013) with another remix in his distinctive groovy and highly accessible style (the track can also be found on his latest pack of fresh vocal goodies The Muse).
My son was happily singing along the minimal tech-grooves of David Last's Señor Fuego remix. He's the real surprise to find here since I don't remember hearing anything from him but the acclaimed debut The Push Pull in 2005 and Musically Massive with MC Zulu in 2008. According to Discogs he has other releases as well and the last time he released something in 2014. Well good to see him back.
